LOCATION:
The Hunting “Get-Away” will be located 25 miles north of Steamboat, Colorado, in the majestic Mount Zirkel Wilderness area. This game unit (14) is known for one of the larger elk herds that roam the northern part of Colorado.

HOUSING:
“Get-Aways” are headquartered at a Lodge which offers good food, hot showers, adequate sleeping, and a western atmosphere.

HUNTING SPECIFICS:
Colorado has four combined deer and elk seasons. We’ve chosen the first (elk only) & third season (elk and deer). We’ll be hunting in game management area 14. A Hunter Safety Card is required to purchase a license if born after 1949. Colorado accepts valid hunter safety cards from other states.

Each morning a short 3 miles drive will get us to the parking lot of the trail head. From here, it’s a 2 mile hike up an old logging road into a variety of hunting spots that we have hunted successfully for the past 20 years, all with well marked maps. The hunting areas have a mixture of active meadows, draws, and watering holes.

Altitude will be approximately 7,000 – 9,000 ft.

COSTS & EXPENSES:
Licenses: Non-Resident purchase your hunting license from the Colorado Division of Wildlife website. Hunting tags will be purchased individually, and instructions will be provided on when and how to apply.

The cost for the entire Get-Away includes food, lodging, transportation from and return to Denver International Airport, transportation to lodge and daily hunting grounds.

Total amount to budget is $4,000-5,000, including everything except meat processing and taxidermy.
